The 1972 Australian Tour Car Championship third round at Bathurst was one of the greatest contests ever. The lineup for the start was Moffat, Geoghegan, Jane and Norm Beechey in his yellow Holden Monaro HT GTS 350. The race was a great battle between Geoghegan and Moffat, so when Jane was forced out with piston failure and Beechey with a broken gearbox they left the circuit virtually unnoticed. A disappointing end for Norm in Round 3. He gained 3rd place in Round 4 but unreliability plagued the car for the remaining season.
