The powerful Bulleid design Merchant Navy pacific type express passenger locomotives were originally built for the Southern Railway and finished with a streamlined casing. Intended to haul the heavy trains connecting with ocean liners and cross-channel ferrys the class were named after famous shipping lines. Several innovative features of the design failed to perform satisfactorily and to resolve the problems the locomotives were rebuilt with more conventional fittings.
This model presents Holland-Afrika Line in the later BR period, painted in the lined brunswick green passenger livery with the lion holding wheel crest.
