For the 1993 season, Benetton was supplied with works Ford engines, superior to the customer version supplied to McLaren, which could only use them starting from the British Grand Prix. The new traction control systems (introduced only in the middle of the season) and further technical developments contributed to making the Benetton 193 Formula 1 utterly competitive. Benetton had replaced Brundle with Riccardo Patrese from Williams. During the season, always marked by Williams’ dominance (this time with Prost returning to racing), Schumacher got several podium placements and a victory in Portugal. At the beginning of September, he also made official the renewal of the contract with Benetton also for the following season. Schumacher finished fourth in the drivers’ championship, showing that the team’s pace was constantly growing.
